Man Who Post Unverified/ Fake News Punished By Law

Davao City:  a person was arrested around 3:38PM of April 05, 2020, for posting unverified/fake list of names who are allegedly positive of COVID19 in Facebook Pages Deca Homeowners and Neighbourhood Association, Inc. and Barangay Cabantian of Davao Concern Citizen.

The Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit 11 in coordination with Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Cyber Response Team apprehended the subject person following the instruction of Police Brigadier General Filmore Escobal of Police Regional Office 11 to track down person who post unverified or fake COVID19 related information.

He was caught at Brgy. Cabantian, Buhangin, Davao City and is now at the custody of Davao City Police Office for the violation of Art 154 all in relation to Sec 6 of RA 10175, RA 11332 (Law on Reporting of Communicable Diseases), and RA 10173 (Data Privacy Act) and RA 11469 (Bayanihan to Heal as One Act).

“This operation should serve as a warning to everyone. Keep in mind that the PNP can track down those who make posts of unverified information that might endanger the privacy of individual and caused panic to the public. It is during these times that all should be responsible in using their social media accounts. As responsible citizen of this region, help us in this fight. Together, we can heal as one.” PBGEN ESCOBAL stated.
