Magsaysay LGU Holds “Lutong Manok Challenge”

The local government of Magsaysay in Davao del Sur has made a way to showcase the talent and bring out the creativity of its residents in cooking while on a lockdown due to COVID-19.

The LGU organized the “Lutong Manok Challenge” wherein participants were asked to post photos of their cooked chicken with the name of the dish and ingredients on Facebook.

The qualified participants were those recipients of the food pack assistance which comprised of five kilos of rice and one whole dressed chicken.

The winning entries were based on the posted food recipes that have gained the most ‘Likes’ and ‘Hearts’ as reactions on Facebook.

The LGU has chosen three (3) top winners, top ten (10) mentions, and 127 recipients of the consolation prize for the Lutong Manok Challenge.

The winning entry of Virgie L. Versano of Purok 3, Poblacion, grabbed the 1st prize for her Saucy Chicken Hamonado with Veggies dish.

The first prize winner received a cash prize of P5,000.00, the second prize got P3,000.00, and the third won P2,000.00.

Each of the top ten participants was given ten kilos of rice, while the recipients of consolation prize each received five kilos of rice.

This effort of the LGU is part of helping the residents to lighten up the current situation in the community amid the health crisis that has affected a substantial portion of the municipality’s population.

“Kining atong pa-contest is just for fun and really serves the purpose nga nalingaw gyud and tanan (The purpose of our contest if simply for fun and it really serves the purpose of promoting fun for everyone),” stated on a Facebook page post of LGU Magsaysay. (PIA-XI/Kevin Paolo Caro)
