LPA Damages ₱ 4.4M Worth Of Crops In Zamboanga City

Heavy rains and wind brought by the Low Pressure Area (LPA) damages more than P4.4 million worth crops in Zamboanga City since Sunday evening.

Carmencita Sanchez, city agriculturist told RPN DXXX, a total of 117.28 hectares of rice were damaged affecting 75 farmers.

Damages were registered in barangays Culianan, Cabaluay, Guiwan, and Talisayan. These barangays have rice fields.

She assured that the names of these farmers were already submitted to the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for possible assistance.

Assistance to be given will be in the form of seeds soon.

The rains accompanied by strong winds also flooded streets, damaged several houses on stilts and knocked down trees causing power outage in various parts of the city.

Meanwhile, City Social Welfare and Development Officer, Ma. Socoro Rojas said damage in households were also recorded.

For barangay Cabaluay, four houses were totally destroyed, Culianan one house totally destroyed while four houses partially destroyed, and for Taluksangay 36 houses totally damaged and 133 partially damaged

16 families are now at Talisayan Elementary School while others went to their relatives for shelter.

Rojas said, food and non food items were already given to the affected families.
