Bacolod City – The Bacolod Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit noted an increase in Covid positivity rate in the city from June 1 to 10.

CESU records show that four in every 10 individuals tested for the disease yielded positive results.

With this, CESU stressed that necessary measures should be undertaken to abort further transmission of infection among the city’s populace.

It added that people should remain vigilant and religiously abide by the minimum health protocols.

Recently, members of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and the Philippine College of Physicians expressed alarm over the increasing number of Covid cases in Bacolod.

The doctors underscored the fact that the hospitals were overwhelmed and now suffering from the lack of healthcare workers.

Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said some 41,065 Bacolodnons have already been inoculated against Covid-19.

Of the number, Leonardia said 31,665 got their first jab while 9,400 have completed their second dose of the vaccine.

But he said that the vaccination rollout in Bacolod still has a long way to go, adding that only 424,000 of the 624,987 Bacolod population are qualified to be vaccinated.

The city government has asked for the date of arrival of the 650,000 doses of the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccines it purchased. The vaccines procured by Bacolod are being manufactured in Thailand. (Adrian Nemes via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
