HMC Management informed Mayor Diaz four days ago that it was imposing a lockdown on its mining camp, restricting the ingress and egress of non- essential/non-emergency staff. HMC took this step after two of our executives – our Resident Mine Manager and his companion our company doctor – tested positive for COVID-19 while in a Surigao City hospital. Both are under competent medical care; our company doctor remains asymptomatic while our mine manager is slowly recovering from the virus.

All our personnel who were in contact with our two executives have gone into quarantine and will remain under observation for the next week. Other than some incidences of cough, our employees in self-quarantine have no other symptoms that should be cause for alarm.

We have also conducted a disinfection of our offices, following IATF protocol.

During the period of lockdown, food, medicine and other essentials shall be provided to our staff by our nearby business units, Taganito Mining Corporation in Claver and Cagdianao Mining Corporation in Valencia, the Dinagat Island Provinces.

Given what is known about the COVID-19 virus – transmission via droplets and an incubation period of 14 days – we are confident that for as long as everyone continues to wear masks at all times, practice social distancing and hand washing and personal hygiene the potential of any community spread of the virus will remain low, and the need to quarantine will be lifted within a week or two.

Protecting the welfare of all Tagana-anons and of our staff remains our top priority, most especially at this time.
