Gyms, fitness studios, skating rinks, and racket sports courts in the National Capital Region (NCR) and its surrounding provinces will be allowed to resume operations starting next week.

Last Thursday, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases issued its Resolution 120 allowing these establishments to operate in NCR plus—the collective term for Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan and Rizal—at 30 percent venue capacity once they obtain the necessary Safety Seal Certification.

The Safety Seal Certification issued by several government agencies ensure that these establishments are compliant with minimum health standards.

IATF also allowed historical sites and museums in NCR plus to reopen at 20 percent venue capacity provided these establishments comply with minimum health standards, suspend guided tours, and have the approval of concerned local government units (LGU).

Senior citizen policy

Under its new issuance, IATF also enable fully vaccinated senior citizens in areas under general community quarantine and modified general community quarantine, to leave their homes.

When traveling outside their residences, senior citizens are, however, required to carry their duly issued Covid-19 vaccination card, and strictly observe minimum public health standards and only travel within their specific “zone.”

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said interzonal travel for these senior citizens are still prohibited, except for point-to-point travel that was previously allowed by the IATF.

As of June 8, 2021, only 373,493 senior citizens nationwide were “fully vaccinated” after they got their Covid-19 shots.

Around 1.2 million senior citizens, however, have yet to get their second dose of the vaccine.

Roque said the provisions of IATF Resolution 120 will take effect on June 16, 2021.
