Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will lead the giving of awards to the Mayors, Punong Barangays and VAW Desk Officers of the Best Barangay VAW Desk of the Negros Occidental this morning, Dec. 16, at Nature’s Village in Talisay City during the Provincial Culmination of the annual 18 Day Campaign To End VAW.
According to Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si, chair of the Provincial Council for Women which conducts the annual search, this year’s Best Barangay VAW Desks are Brgy. Mambagaton, Himamaylan and Brgy. Camalanda-an, Cauayan.
To receive the award for Best VAW Desk are Mambagaton Punong Brgy. Salvacion Gonzales and VAW Desk Officer/Kagawad Myrna Melocoton.
For the municipal category, Punong Barangay Jemuel Dulla, Sr. and VAW Desk Officer/Kagawad Marilyn Dulla will receive the award for Brgy. Camalanda-an.
Himamaylan City Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson and Cauayan Municipal Mayor John Rey Tabujara will also receive special awards for their support to the VAW Desk and GAD programs of their respective barangays.
Second Placer for the city category is Barangay XII, Victorias City with Punong Brgy. Gary Bacay and VAW Desk Officer Leslie Bacay.
Third Placer is Barangay III, La Carlota City with Punong Brgy. Annabelle Bermudo and VAW Desk Officer Noemi Pendon, and 4th placer is Barangay IV, Silay City with Punong Brgy. Romeo Ledesma and VAW Desk Officer Julie Mae Luberisco.
City mayors of the runner-up barangays are Hon. Francis Frederick Palanca of Victorias, Hon. Luis Jalandoni of La Carlota, and Hon. Mark Andrew Arthur Golez of Silay.
Second Placer for the Municipal Category is Brgy. Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto with Punong Brgy. Romeo Mollenido and VAW Desk Officer Daisy Apatan.
Third Placer is Brgy. Blumentritt, Murcia with Punong Brgy. Ronald Olvido and VAW Desk Officer Febe Alvarez, and 4th Placer is Brgy. Galicia, Ilog with Punong Brgy. Pedmond Glenogo and VAW Desk Officer Kagawad Enelyn Lutao.
Mayors of runner-up barangays are Hon. Lawrence Marxlen de la Cruz of DSB, Hon. Victor Gerardo Roxas of Murcia, and Hon. John Paul Alvarez of Ilog.
Other finalists are Brgy. Talacagay, Hinobaan; Brgy. Odiong, Moses Padilla; Brgy. Balintawak, Escalante City; and Brgy. Magsaysay, Cadiz City.
Other entries included Brgy. Guadalupe, San Carlos City; Brgy. Paraiso, Sagay City; Brgy. Lalagsan, La Castellana; and Brgy. Tigbao, Calatrava.
Aside from the awarding of Best Barangay VAW Desks, some activities lined up for the culmination of the 18 Day Campaign are talks on Strengthening Community Action Against VAW by Councilor Rosalinda Tuvilla, Jr. of Talisay City, and the presentation of the Highlights of the Provincial GAD Data Base and GAD Agenda by PCW Adviser and PILIPINA Chapter Chair, Marie June Pavillar-Castro.
A panel discussion on Best Practices on VAW will be hosted by Dionela Flores-Madrona before lunch, while fellowship, entertainment, and raffle of door prizes to culminate the celebration of the 25th year of the PCW Ordinance will be held in the afternoon.* (Mari June Pavillar Castro via NDB)
