First Covid Suspect In Surigao City, A Fisherman

The 33 years old married male suspect of COVID-19 who died and was buried immediately at the public cemetery is a fisherman. The swab sample was already sent to Southern Philippines Medical Center. He was tagged as P16COV at Caraga Regional Hospital.

The patient was referred from a private hospital and admitted at CRH early morning of May 7, 2020 as a COVID-19 suspect due to fever and respiratory distress. Dr. Cheryl Gotinga, OIC Medical Center Chief of Caraga Regional Hospital reported that the patient has no history of travel or exposure and after 14 hours of admission at EREID ward, he died.

Dr. Arlene Felizarta of Surigao del Norte Provincial Health Office in a text message to RPN DXKS said she already requested the City Health Office to do the contact tracing. The 33 years old male patient’s address is in San Juan, Surigao City, Dr. Felizarta said in a text message to the media.

In Barangay San Juan, Punong Barangay Susan Galinea will inquire to their health personnel if contact tracing was already made. Her office did not received a report from the health authorities but only inquiries from the members of the media. As to what purok the fisherman is living is not yet known this time as she was busy the past days in assisting the Social Amelioration Program release done by DSWD. (jc|DXKS RPN Radio)
