Davao City:  The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD XI) is coordinating with the local government units (LGUs) of Region XI to augment the needed assistance to communities within the said region.

The said assistance is composed of a total of 113,600 family food packs (FFPs) where each food pack is composed of six (6) kilograms of rice, six (6) sachets of instant coffee, four (4) pieces of canned meat, and four (4) pieces of canned fish.

As of April 7, 48,000 FFPs have been distributed to various localities while the remainder of the food packs shall be distributed from the 13th to the 17th of April 2020.

The Regional Director for DSWD XI Grace Subong bared that the targeting for the said augmentation of assistance to the local government shall be based on existing data to accurately deliver the needed services to the impoverished sectors of the Davao Region.

“Given sa atuang data on the listahanan where we can tell who or where the poor are, we will get a certain percentage there because we know naa ang atong local governments nga nag hatag sad sa maong food packs (Based on our information database where we can tell who and where the poor are, we will take a certain percentage from the said list since we know the local governments are also distributing their respective food packs),” Subong said.

The DSWD also recognizes how important manpower is to effectively distribute the family food packs to various communities around Region XI that is why the DSWD is partnering with LGUs to achieve the widest coverage possible.

“In terms sa mag distribute, nakig partner gyud ta sa LGU. Considering that kung mag hisgot ka’g action team kada munisipyo mu range lang na siya ug 10-20 staff per team (In terms of distribution, we have partnered with LGUs to establish municipal action teams composed of 10-20 staff per team),” Subong added.

While there may be a need for more volunteers to help in the repacking and distribution, the DSWD is careful in tapping individuals to help especially as it practices some protocols such as social distancing and the use of right Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).  (PIA XI/KPC)
