DOLE-CAR resumes inspection on establishment

Baguio City – To ensure the continuous promotion of rights and welfare of workers in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the Department of Labor and Employment – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR) labor department has resumed the labor laws compliance inspection on private establishments in the 6 provinces and two cities.

DOLE-CAR Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman said in Administrative Order No. 27, Series of 2020, issued by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, a general authority for all Regional Offices to resume the conduct of routine inspections in their areas of jurisdiction.

Lat year, DOLE-CAR has inspected one thousand six hundred thirty two (1,632) private business establishments subject to regular labor inspection. There are around 900,000 private business establishments in the country.

“The labor inspectors (LIs) who will conduct the said inspection are tasked to ensure the compliance of private companies on general labor standards, such as proper payment of wages during holidays, overtime pays, implementation of the minimum wage law, remittance of social benefits of their workers, and others.” Guzman added.

Also subject to inspection is the compliance of companies to health and safety standards.

The inspected establishments were mostly engaged in wholesale and retail, accommodation, and food service, and administrative support and service.

Last December 2019, the labor department has temporarily suspended the said inspection activities to enable the department to dispose of all pending labor standards cases and prepare the inspection programs for 2020.

Starting this month, the regional office will continue its inspections and the priority establishments and workplaces including their branches, workplaces, contractor and subcontractors are those engaged in
