Bacolod City – Due to the continued rising Covid cases, the Philippine College of Physicians Negros Occidental Chapter is calling on the authorities to place the province and Bacolod City under stricter quarantine status for two weeks.

The PCP Negros Occidental said this will halt the transmission of the virus from one household to another and will help decongest hospitals of Covid patients.

PCP Negros Occidental president Ronel Sario told the DAILY STAR that they are dismayed by the decision of the National Inter-Agency Task Force to maintain the Modified General Community Quarantine status of Bacolod and Negros Occidental until June 30, as announced by Malacañang Monday night.

Negros Oriental and the city and province of Iloilo are under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.

“Basing it on the number of cases alone, we are tagged as high risk and we even surpassed Metro Manila cases and these numbers are exponentially increasing daily, and this is beyond alarming,” Sario said.

He stressed that the medical profession remains one of the most resilient arms in the society and to hear everyone cry for help means that the situation is serious.

Sario added that despite the alarm raised by the medical community, bars, coffee shops, and the likes are still open without regard for personal and the community safety.

PCP said it seems that they are left unarmed but they will still continue to call and appeal for all Bacolodnons and Negrenses to follow the health protocols.

They said “they have been heard but want to be listened to”, adding that “Covid is still here and remain as our main enemy”.

The doctors said they need the cooperation of the public and for them to follow the rules to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, Dr. Julius Drilon, hospital chief of the government-run Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, sought permission from Mayor Evelio Leonardia to close the 50-meter portion of Burgos Street in front of the hospital.

Drilon said they intend to set up tents in the area where the watchers of patients can stay since they are not allowed in the hospital. (Adrian Nemes via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
