Davao City:  The Department of Education XI spokesperson Jenielito Atillo bared at the One Davao on COVID 19 Virtual Presser yesterday (May 20) that the regional office will be offering an online and offline enrolment for the public schools starting June 1 until 30.

“Just by the use of their cellphone, laptop, or PC, they will be able to enroll,” Atillo explained after the DepEd considers all available medium to lessen physical contact due to the corona virus pandemic.

However, the DepEd XI spokesperson clarified that the agency will also implement offline enrolment especially for those who have no gadget and internet connection to avail of the online enrolment.

The DepEd XI ensures that the offline enrolment will strictly follow the health protocols set forth by the government.

“We won’t cater to you if you don’t wear face mask, if you don’t adhere to our instructions especially the physical distancing.”

The agency bared that during the enrolment period, a survey will also be conducted to get the pulse of its stakeholders. They will be asked which learning modality is more appropriate in their particular locality.

Atillo said the DepEd sees the importance to consider the situation of the environment, and the capacity of the learners as vital factors in deciding which learning modality is best fitted for the school.

The DepEd earlier announced five learning delivery options that the schools both public and private may opt considering various factors. The learning modalities approved by the agency are Blended Learning; Distance Learning; Face to Face Learning, Apprenticeship, and Home Schooling.

“ On home schooling as a modality, we have yet to receive a policy from the DepEd Central. They are still yet to send to the regional office the guidelines for comments. The comments will be sent back so the central can come up with regulations for home schooling,” Atillo said. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
