Aportadera said health protocols won’t be a tough challenge.

“It is no longer heavy as it is already templated with the city having hosted two Ironman events, it’s like fill-in-the-blanks,” Aportadera said. “Probably there will be revisions on how the new normal would be implemented in our Ironman events because it would the atmosphere resembling a fiesta with many visitors coming.” The race consists of a 1.9-kilometer swim in the Davao Gulf, a
90-kilometer bike segment from Davao City to Tagum City in nearby Davao del Norte and a 21-kilometer run along JP Laurel Avenue.
Competitions will be in the individual and relay categories.
Aportadera said the event brings additional economic benefits and tourism receipts just like in pre-pandemic 2018 and 2019 with the city hosted similar events.
“It’s about time that we open again our doors to our visitors worldwide,” Aportadera said.
