Davao City Opens On-Line Application On Cash- For- Work For Affected Workers

Davao City:    The Davao City government launched today, June 16, 2020, the on-line application for the cash-for-work program for workers affected by shutdowns of business industries in Davao City due to lockdowns and movement restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic.

Dubbed the “Work for Davao” is a cash-for-work program offered to Dabawenyos as the city government’s continuing response to Covid-19. A downloadable application form for availing the Work for Davao program can be accessed on www.facebook.com/workfordavao, or applicants may send an email to WorkforDavao@gmail.com.

Norman Baloro, the head of the Work for Davao program, said that Work for Davao is an emergency employment cash-for-work program for individuals or heads of families who are out of work since the coronavirus pandemic.

For this program, the city government has allocated a budget of P169,944,000 of the Local Government Support Fund from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Around 42,900 individuals are targeted to benefit the program. Each beneficiary will receive P396 per day for 10 days. Dabawenyos or the non-residents who are working in Davao City are qualified to apply for the program.

“All sectors are qualified to join, but we have our prioritization. Tagaan nato og priority ang retrenched under DOLE nga mga workers, and mga closure or business closure under Business Bureau. Pero dili ta mag discriminate kung kinsa man ang atong mapatrabaho niini (All sectors are qualified to join, but we have our prioritization. We will give priority to workers who are retrenched under DOLE, and those affected by business closure under the Business Bureau. But we will not discriminate who are allowed to join the program),” Baloro said.

Workers who are in the agricultural sector – farmers and fishermen, industry sector – industrial and factory workers, and services sector – transport workers and food services workers, may also avail under the Work for Davao program.

Formal workers or workers who are affected by retrenchments or closure of offices or businesses should attach a certification from their employer as proof they are out of work, or employers can send the names of their retrenched employees to WorkforDavao@gmail.com.

Those in the informal sector should attach a certificate of unemployment, which can be secured from their CSWDO district offices.

Qualified applicants can either work for clean-up drive, dengue awareness campaign, Brigada Eskwela, or disinfection of parks and wet market (palengke) that will be monitored by the barangay CSWDO and the barangay council. CIO
