The Fisheries Resource Protection Group (FRPG) of DA-BFAR Caraga has continuously conducted seaborne patrol operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, the FRPG team held a different kind of seaborne operation. While sailing the rough seas, a “soft” seaborne operation was conducted in the waters off the Province of Dinagat Islands, in Butuan City and in some parts of Surigao del Norte such as; Surigao City, Taganaan, Placer and Bacuag. The group distributed food packages to fisherfolk whom they passed by as a way to support their needs in the time of the implementation of the community quarantine.

There were at least 50 fisherfolk who received the food package which contain five (5) kilograms of rice, six (6) pieces of 33-gram milk sachet, ten (10) pieces of 20-gram coffee pack, four (4) pieces of canned goods, three (3) pieces of noodles, one (1) rice noodle and a half kilogram of sugar.

The operation was realized through the initiative of the Regional Fisheries Management Regulatory and Enforcement Division and of the National Stock Assessment Program of DA-BFAR Caraga. Inspired by the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”, BFAR personnel under the said division willingly and heartily shared their blessings to the fisherfolk.
