CAAP Supports Airport Transfer

Officials of the Zamboanga City International Airport (ZIA) led by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Area Manager Antonio Alfonso strongly support the transfer of the Zamboanga International Airport to another site to conform with international standards.

Alfonso made his statement after a plan of Philippine Airlines to resume flights to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia this March.

In several news reports, Air Asia, a major airline, is also planning to introduce flights from Manila to Zamboanga City and vice versa starting the first quarter of this year.

The increase of air passengers daily matters the airport space, Alfonso observed.

Alfonso said, the present design, the space and other concerns do not fit and match the modern and required international standards.

The manager believes the transfer of the airport will help solve the standardization issue as this will be compliant under the new design.
