Davao City – An official of the Department of Education XI expressed excitement for the opening of classes for the school year 2020-2021 as face-to-face teaching delivery as of the moment is not allowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jeneilito Atillo, spokesperson of the Department of Education XI bared plans to go back to the traditional way of teaching must be only in areas with no COVID-19 cases, and must be approved by the Department of Education, Department of Health, the IATF and the local government unit in the respective area.

He cited the blended learning as a mode of teaching students nowadays because of the pandemic.

“It consists of various teaching modalities using the radio, television, online or modular instruction but it must be done in a formal manner that will suit and responsive to the education needs of students,” Atillo said.

He said the blended learning is a response of the Department of Education to the different capabilities of the population considering that there are areas where online learning cannot be done due to poor signal of the web or even with strong connectivity, people do not have the capability to buy gadgets.

Atillo stressed the principal of the school must find ways to serve all the students.

He said that if the online operation is impossible, the school can go on modular, wherein the students learn through the use of segmented subjects, of which assigned teachers must ensure that learning materials will be picked up by students at the agreed location in the community.

Atillo revealed that a dry-run of the various teaching modalities is being made nationwide to determine how the school will run its chosen way of teaching like actual online operation with the teacher on actual uniform to simulate the actual performing of classes.

He said the dry-run gives the DepEd the idea of finding ways of improving the delivery of educational services to the public. (Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
