The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said it does not plan on imposing a deployment ban of OFWs to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In an online press briefing on Monday, Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said authorities from UAE were cooperating in the investigation of OFW Mary Anne Daynolo’s death.

He said the UAE government also helped the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in repatriating the remains of Daynolo during the weekend.

Arrested suspect

Daynolo, a 30-year old receptionist at a reputable hotel in Abu Dhabi, went missing on March 2020, before her alleged body was found last month.

The Abu Dhabi police arrested an Ugandan national only identified as ‘Paul,” who confessed to have killed Daynolo.

The two other ‘accomplices’ of Paul remain at large.

Bello said they are coordinating with UAE authorities to have the said accomplices jailed.

“They should also be caught and brought to justice. Justice should be served for what they did to our beloved OFW,” Bello said.

Autopsy

Bello said Daynolo’s body is being autopsied by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) upon the request of her parents.

The labor chief said the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, which makes its identification difficult.

The autopsy is also expected to reveal the cause of death of Daynolo.

Government aid

Bello assured the family of the Daynolo will get death and burial benefits from OWWA.

He said they will also facilitate the processing of Daynolo’s insurance from her employer and from the agency that recruited her.

“If she has children, they will get educational scholarships too,” Bello said.
