Bacolod: WV crimes down 7 percent

Bacolod City – The Police Regional Office 6 reported that crimes in Western Visayas have gone down by 7.2 percent, from January to May, compared to the same period last year.

PRO 6 logged 4,820 incidents this year compared to 5,194 in 2023, registering a reduction of 374 incidents.

On the eight focus crimes that are comprised of murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and theft of motorcycles, PRO 6 logged 958 this year, compared to 1,197 in 2023, a reduction of 19.97 percent.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, regional police director of Western Visayas, lauded the performance of police units in the region, and their relentless and proactive effort in the fight against lawlessness in their respective areas of responsibility.

“The down trend of our recorded crimes in the region is the fruit of your labor. This is the product of maximizing your personnel on the streets and deploying them in strategic areas,” Wanky said.

He also recognized the strong and continued support of the local government units, force multipliers, advocacy support groups, and other stakeholders in the peace and order campaign. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
