A woman died while trying to rescue her pet dogs from the fire that engulfed her house at Capitol Heights Subdivision, Phase 1 in Barangay Villamonte here yesterday.

Michelle Grace Mirasol, 36, died of suffocation, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, city fire marshal, said the victim was with her child and her parents when the fire broke out at about 6:17 a.m.

They all went out of the house but Mirasol decided to go back to rescue her pet, he added.

Ploteña said Mirasol’s body was later found inside the bathroom.

Initial investigation showed the fire started from the electrical wires on the ceiling of the house, which was made of concrete and light materials.

The fire, which ended after 30 minutes, damaged about PHP100,000 worth of properties of the Mirasol family.

Ploteña reminded residents of Bacolod that during fire incidents, no one should be allowed to go back inside the house or building.

“Protect yourself, you only have one life,” he said. (Nanette Guadalquiver ndb via pna)
