Bacolod City – The City Health Office reported an increase of 245 percent of dengue cases in Bacolod City, with three deaths, as of September 21.
CHO logged 1,448 dengue cases in Bacolod City from January to Sept.21 this year, compared to 491 cases, with three mortalities in the same period of 2023.
The top 10 barangays in terms of cases are Taculing with 171 cases, followed by Brgy. Bata at 136, Mansilingan – 107, Estefania – 106, Villamonte – 100, Granada – 70, Alijis – 70, Sum-ag – 68, Mandalagan – 67, and Tangub with 64 cases.
Majority of the victims are minors, according to CHO reports.
The Bacolod CHO encourages barangays to further strengthen their anti-dengue efforts, through the implementation of search and destroy campaigns.
According to the World Health Organization, the dengue virus is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
The Department of Health warns that the risk of transmission is highest during and immediately following the rainy season, typically from May-November. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
