Bacolod Charter Day celeb highlights ‘Mga Adlaw sang Paghanduraw’

Although it is the 81st Charter Day celebration that was usually done on October 19, it is now the first charter day celebration by virtue of RA 11146 authored by Cong. Greg Gasataya, on June 18, as the date of signing of Commonwealth Act 325 by the late President Manuel L. Quezon, as the charter of Bacolod City. This is the final activity for the week-long celebration of Mga Adlaw sang Paghanduraw which kicks off with the celebration of the 121st Independence Day on June 12 until June 18, Bacolod Charter Day.

According to Councilor Em Ang, Chairman, SP Committee on Tourism, there are series of activities on this date; inauguration of BREDCO Ferry Terminal, Esplanade and the floating restaurant in Sum-ag. The Holy Mass will be at 12:15 noontime at Lupit Church, then the grand parade of city government officials, barangay officials, DepEd, PNP and business and other sectors.

Senator Sonny Angara will be the guest of honor and speaker during the charter day program where top taxpayers and outstanding city government employees will be awarded, and the Mayor’s Special Citation/awards to outstanding Bacolodnons. The finale event is the inauguration of Halandumon Tower.

On June 12, Independence Day program, Sec. Eliseo Rio, Jr. of the Department of Information, Communication and Technology (DICT), will be the guest speaker.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia has issued Executive Order Number 14 Series of 2019 urging all city government, barangays, non-government organizations, residents, owners of public and private cars, and other establishments to display the Philippine Flag during the period, and in accordance with the flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.

For the whole period, is the Halandumon Food and Trade Fair at the NGC grounds, where there will be booths for every barangay displaying its products, as well as other exhibitors. Also, the Halandumon photo exhibits at Ayala Mall.

June 13 events include Halandumon History quiz chaired by Councilor Renecito Novero, at the NGC lobby, and SK Night chaired by SK Chairman Ayesha Villaflor.

June 14 is Bacolod City Government Employees Union Day. Then June 15 is Paghanduraw ni Lolo kag Lola hosted by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs. June 16 is Barangay OPM idol, and Battle of the Bands, chaired by incoming Councilor Israel Salanga. June 17 is the first Halandumon festival, where there will be street dancing and competition of festivals in each 38 participating barangay. At 11:50 pm is countdown and fireworks display to welcome June 18 as the charter day of Bacolod City.
