BACOLOD CITY – The City Engineer’s Office (CEO) and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office inspected the horror train ride at the Five Star Grand Carnival located behind the Bacolod City Government Center, where seven riders were reportedly injured on Monday.
Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed that the CEO conducted the inspection recently and summoned both the carnival operator and the Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc., requesting incident reports from them.
The mayor also ordered a comprehensive safety inspection of all other carnival rides located on Ferrero Street and other areas in the city.
Gasataya directed the MassKara Festival organizer to coordinate with the families of the injured riders.
According to Police Station 4, approximately 10 people were aboard the horror train during the incident, where seven individuals, including three minors, sustained minor injuries.
Initial police investigation stated that the train went “out of balance” as the riders allegedly jumped inside the train cart due to fright, and then jumped out of the train when it became unbalanced, causing the injuries.
The injured were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment with medical expenses covered by the management of the carnival.
The police noted that there were no prior reports of mechanical problems with the ride before the accident.
Last month, the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod had questioned the MassKara organizer for setting up the carnival without first securing a permit. (Theresa Mae Dulman via tvds)
