Bacolod: 785 candidates vie for 369 posts in Negros Occidental

Bacolod City – There are 785 candidates vying for 369 elected positions in the 2025 midterm elections in Negros Occidental.

Four of those candidates are challenging incumbent Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson in the gubernatorial race, two are aspirants for the vice gubernatorial position, 23 aspirants for Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, 70 candidates running for mayor, 63 for vice mayor, while 607 candidates eyeing the post of city or municipal councilors.

There are 15 candidates for the seven congressional districts in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City.

Male aspirants dominate the number of candidates for local positions in Negros Occidental, data from the Commission on Elections showed on Friday.

Of the 785 candidates across the province and in highly-urbanized Bacolod City, 615 or 78.34 percent, are male, while 168 (21.4 percent) are females. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
