Mayor Evelio Leonardia here said the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games is a moment wherein the Filipinos can unite.

“I appeal to the Filipinos to at least give moral support to our athletes. The last time it was held here, the Philippines won the overall championship. I think the home crowd is really a big factor,” the mayor said on Tuesday afternoon.

Leonardia, national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, witnessed the opening ceremony held on Nov. 30 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

He said the show’s production value was something that made the Filipinos proud, as he met a couple from Bacolod who flew in just to watch the SEA Games matches.

“While I was watching the show live, I was getting emotional because I feel very proud to be a Filipino. Let us use this as a time to be united. This is the pride of the country,” the mayor said.
