Davao del Norte:    The provincial government of Davao del Norte has provided food pack assistance to some 34, 901 residents of the Municipality of Santo Tomas who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Led by Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib, the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte Inter-Agency Task Force endorsed the food packs Wednesday to the barangay captains at the Municipal Covered Court in Feeder Road 3, Brgy. Ti-bal-og, Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte.

The food packs included the following: 3 kilos of rice and 2 cans of sardines.

Jubahib said that all residents of 19 barangays in the municipality of Santo Tomas will receive the food pack assistance.

Mayor Ernesto Evangelista thanked the provincial government for extending assistance to the people of Santo Tomas since the entire Davao region was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine.

“The support of the provincial government is a big help to augment our assistance for everyone. We are doing all our best to lessen the impact of COVID-19 to our people,” Evangelista said.

Evangelista said he ordered the immediate distribution of food packs, as he also made an appeal to the public to stay calm and maintain public order as the municipal government was working double time to distribute all the food assistance.

“I urge all the barangay captains to speedily distribute the food packs since we are now under ECQ. Let’s move quickly so that our people can make use of the relief aid given by the government,” he said.

The local chief executive said he devised a scheme to ensure that the protocols stated in Executive Order 15 will be followed.

The Sangguniang Bayan members headed by the Vice-Mayor are clustered per barangays to also facilitate the smooth distribution of the food assistance, according to Evangelista.

The food packs will be delivered at the barangay hall of the 19 barangays and the distribution will be spearheaded by the Barangay Captain together with their respective Team Leader Councilors and Vice-Mayor.

Meanwhile, Municipal Administrator Atty. Elisa Evangelista-Lapina said the food assistance given by the provincial government was the second wave of assistance for all Tomasinos.

Lapina said that the third wave of food assistance will be given by the Santo Tomas LGU this week.

The MSWDO is ramping up the repacking of food packs which include 5 kilos of rice, 5 cans of sardines, 3 cans of corned beef or beef loaf and 5 pieces of noodles.

“We are trying our best to finish all the repacking activities so that our assistance can reach all the targeted families,” Lapina said.
