DOH Caraga reports, July 11, 2020, 174 RT-PCR results received from Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) and Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) sub-national laboratories.

Of the said RT-PCR results received, 135 tested negative while thirty-nine (39) turned positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The negative RT-PCR results are from the a) Seven (7) Suspect cases from Caraga Regional Hospital, Agusan del Norte Provincial Hospital, Butuan Medical Center and Butuan Doctors’ Hospital, b) Five (5) Probable cases from Agusan del Sur quarantine facility, and c) 123 results coming from high-risk individuals who either have turned positive in the Rapid Antibody-based Test or with relevant travel and exposure to COVID-19.

As revealed, 39 samples are RT-PCR confirmed positive for COVID-19: Twenty-five (25) are follow-up tests of previously confirmed positive cases while 14 are new cases.

Of the 14 new cases, 57.14% (8) are Locally Stranded Individuals while 42.86% (6) are Returning Overseas Filipinos. As to sex distribution, males and females are equally divided (50%). For age group, 78.57% belong to ages 20-30 years old. Cases are distributed in the following areas: Butuan City (2), municipalities in Agusan del Norte- Buenavista (1), Carmen (1), Nasipit (2), Cabadbaran City (1), municipalities in Agusan del Sur- San Francisco (1), San Luis (1), municipalities in Surigao del Norte- Alegria (2), Bacuag (1), Del Carmen (1), and San Miguel, Surigao del Sur (1).

All cases are asymptomatic and are admitted and isolated at designated quarantine facilities region-wide for monitoring and management.

DOH Caraga reiterates that the follow-up tests are from previously confirmed cases following the test-based RT-PCR results before cleared for recovery and discharge. Based on the updated interim guidelines, however, recovery and discharge criteria will not only depend on the laboratory results but more on the assessment of the assigned health team. If confirmed patients are clinically well and had passed the quarantine period, the attending physician may recommend for patient’s recovery and discharge. In the succeeding management of COVID-19 cases, the updated guidelines per DM 2020-0258 will be firmly observed. As of this time, DOH Caraga is still in transition in the adoption of this standard.

To date, Caraga region now has a total of 190 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases.

Out of the 190 confirmed cases, 90 had already recovered from the virus.

“As announced at the national level, we already have 21 vaccines undergoing clinical trials while 139 are in the pre-clinical evaluation stage. DOH is closely coordinating with DOST in the monitoring of these vaccines especially if there is progress; then, further evaluation and vetting process shall follow. While waiting, let us remember that we all have crucial roles to play in this pandemic crisis. Let us not forget to practice the minimum health standards and ‘BIDA Solusyon’ for COVID-19: B-bawal walang mask, I-isanitize ang mga kamay, D-dumistansya ng isang metro and A-alamin ang totoong impormasyon. BIDA Solution! Together, let us beat COVID-19!” Regional Director Jose R. Llacuna, Jr. concluded.
