At least 10 of the 327 Davao City government employees assigned in offices at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Building tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

This was bared by City Health Office (CHO) Acting Head and City COVID-19 focal person Dr. Ashley Lopez during the department heads meeting with Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte yesterday morning, Monday, May 31.

Mayor Duterte, during her Special Hours program via the Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) aired in the afternoon, said, “Nag-swab na atoang mga employees og daghan sa ilaha ang nag-positive diha sa Sangguniang Panlungsod Building nato (Our employees have been swabbed and there are a lot of them who  tested positive).”

The mayor said she can’t give the exact number but she has already instructed the Human Resources Management Office (HRMO) on what to do with the employees affected by the SP lockdown.

“I already instructed HRMO to send everyone for a work-from-home for one incubation period. That is for 14 days,” she said.

She also said that the positive cases found were from different offices located at the SP Building but the bulk came from the ground offices, which include the Business Bureau, City Treasurer’s Office, City Assessor’s Office, and Civil Registrar’s Office.

Duterte added, “Naghatag na ta og instruction sa mga department heads sa mga offices na affected by the lockdown to ensure nga duna gihapon continuity sa ilang trabaho nga kinahanglan (I already instructed the department heads of offices affected by the lockdown to ensure that there is continuity of their work).”

She also said that transmission and infection in offices could not be avoided as long as there is a movement of people or employees in the workplaces.

The City Government of Davao announced on May 28 the lockdown of the SP Building from May 31 to June 6. The Vice Mayor’s Office and councilors’ officers are also located at the SP Building.
