Amid the impending declaration of Zamboanga City as red zone due to ASF infection, the Office of the City Veterinarian has strengthened containment activities and other mitigating measures to prevent the spread of the African Swine Fever virus in other areas.
Among the activities conducted include disease surveillance, disinfection of slaughterhouses, Â coordination with checkpoints, farm visitation, Â coordination and meeting with ASF infected barangays and stakeholders, blood sampling, Â as well as information campaign and other related ASF containment activities.
Per confirmatory tests on blood samples taken, positive ASF virus were present in Canucutan in Pasonanca and Mangusu.
The declaration of Zamboanga City as a red zone is done by the Bureau of Animal Industry or BAI under the Department of Agriculture.
