At around 2:45 P.M. today, June 6, 2022 the Commander of the Area Police Command, Western Mindanao, PLTGEN JOSE CHIQUITO M. MALAYO together with the regional directors of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9), PBGEN FRANCO SIMBORIO, Police Regional Office BAR (PRO BAR), PBGEN ARTHUR R. CABALONA, Police Regional Office 12 (PRO12), PBGEN ALEXANDER TAGUM and the OIC of the Intelligence Division of APC, Western Mindanao, PLCOL Bonifacio Arañas; presented the 9 Abu Sayaff surrenders (5 from Sulu and 4 from the province of Basilan).
The former bandits were each given an envelope containing an undisclosed amount, as initial cash assistance. Accordingly, the LGU and other government agencies will also extend cash grants to the surrenderers for them to be able to start anew.
PLTGEN JOSE CHIQUITO MALAYO thanked their field officers from the Special Action Force in identifying the 9 members of the violent extremist group in the islands of Basilan and Jolo, Sulu and significantly contributed in the facilitation of their surrender. PLTGEN MALAYO said that, “Every Filipino has an opportunity to improve its life and be a productive citizen, we just have to abide by the law.” He also encouraged the surrenders to convince other active ASG members to yield and have a better living.
Furthermore, the PLTGEN MALAYO asks the public to cooperate in strengthening the Police-Community Relations and cooperate with the authorities in terms of maintaining the peace and order in the entire country.
