The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is eyeing to build an estimated P1.1 billion worth of underpass project along C.L. Montelibano Avenue-Circumferential Road in Bacolod.

Congressman Greg Gasataya said yesterday that he earlier requested the DPWH to conduct a feasibility study on the proposed underpass project in the city on areas where there is traffic congestion.

Gasataya said, the Bureau of Design Director Lea Delfinado together with the consultant United Technologies Consolidated Partnership presented yesterday the initial plan about the project to him and City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, District Engineer Abraham Villareal, and others.

Gasataya said it was the consultant that proposed the area for the construction of an underpass but he told them to also consider Burgos Street.

Gasataya said, the feasibility study is expected to be finished on the first quarter of 2019, then a series of consultations will be conducted.

Gasataya added that if the project would push through, it would be the first underpass in Western Visayas.

District Engineer Villareal said that the proposed underpass is 600 meters long, with four lanes and has an estimated cost of P1.1 billion including the right of way.

“It only shows that if there’s a good working relationship with the mayor, congressman and city council, a lot of things can happen for Bacolod,” Gasataya said.
