Troops attacked with IED in Sulu, 5 wounded

Four soldiers were wounded, including an Army EOD trooper when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded during the conduct of clearing operation in Patikul, Sulu.

The joint Philippine Army and PNP’s SAF were conducting clearing operations in the eastern part of Patikul, in Sulu last Monday afternoon, August 19, 2019 when attacked by suspected terrorist group Abu Sayyaf.

Western Mindanao Command reported that the joint personnel of RMFB14, 1PMFC, 2PMFC and 52nd SAF were conducting clearing operation in the Eastern part of Patikul, recovered two suspected IED.

The two IED were detonated at the place where the troops discovered. However, another IED in the IED Exploded which resulted to the wounding of the four troopers.

The wounded personnel were identifies as Pfc Arnel Masedorio (EOD), Sgt. Julieto Paculba, Pfc Julmilbar A. Dammang, Cpl. Jaibee Gutierez and P/Cpl. Jonathan T. Semborio (SAF).

This incident was believed to be part of the planned atrocities by lawless group ASG. The AFP and PNP victims were brought to Trauma Ward of KHTB Station Hospital, Brgy Busbus, Jolo, Sulu. (WMC)
