A total of 247 24-millimeter screws with washers from 364 street lights along the Bacolod- Silay Access Road (BASAR) has been reported missing by the 1st Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Talisay City.

Engr. Jaime Javellana, district engineer said the discovery is considered “alarming.”

Javellana said it may cause danger to passing vehicles or residents especially when there is strong winds.

“The street lights have four screws and the culprits stole three of the four. Strong winds may cause these to fall,” he pointed out.

In a report by GMA TV Bacolod, local residents said that they saw three suspects on board a Canter vehicle stealing the screws during night time.

Javellana said they already informed the Talisay City government for them to take action.

He called on residents living along BASAR that spans from Bacolod to Silay to report to the DPWH if they saw persons stealing these screws and washers. NDB*
