P2-M aid to Naga Landslide victims approved

Davao City – The Davao City Council has approved a P2-million assistance to the victims of the recent landslide in Naga City, Cebu, which killed at least 60 people.

The assistance, in the form of food and non-food items, would be sourced out from the 5-percent Quick Response Fund of the City Government for 2018.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, the chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Ways and Means committee, said it was Mayor Inday Sara Duterte who asked the SP to allocate the amount for Naga landslide victims.

“Under the Law, a Local Government has the discretion to give aid to other LGU’s, as long as they are under state of calamity”. Dayanghirang said.

Recently, Davao City also extended assistance to areas affected by typhoon Ompong, The assistance amounted to 20.5- million pesos.

Since the year started, the City Government has already released over 50- million pesos from the Quick Response Fund for foor and financial assistance to calamity-stricken areas in the country.

“We still a little over 65-million pesos from our QRF that we can use and give to other cities and municipalities in times of disasters” Dayanghirang said.

He said that as soon as the city consumes the QRF, it could use the disaster fund that remained untouched.

Dayanghirang said there is still about 100- million pesos remaining under the city’s disaster fund.
