Nothing Collapsed At Mambukal Convention Hotel

Not a single part of the P84 million Mambukal Convention Hotel structure in Minoyan, Murcia collapsed.

Contrary to earlier reports that part of the soon-to-open hotel located inside Mambukal Mountain Resort collapsed, a tree branch blown by strong winds hit the parapet of the building at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

The parapet subsequently fell into a kitchen roofing and roof framing below, causing damages to about 80 square meters of the kitchen structure at the back of the hotel.

These were learned by NDB yesterday afternoon at the hotel vicinity from individuals who claimed they saw the aftermath of the incident.

Vice Governor Bong Lacson earlier told newsmen at the Capitol the same thing, saying he personally went to the hotel in Minoyan yesterday morning to see for himself the damage.

He said he was also told by workers that nothing collapsed, and that a tree branch hit the parapet that subsequently fell into the kitchen roof.

He said the hotel was not yet turned over to the Negros Occidental government because of additional works still being completed.

Mambukal Convention Hotel sits on a 3,300-square meter lot inside the resort. The kitchen, although stuck to the hotel structure, is a separate structure, making them say the hotel building’s integrity is not affected.

No one was hurt in the incident, and what happened was called by those who were there as a “force majeure”.

Workers at the project site refused to comment.

The convention and hotel facility has 48 rooms and three function halls.

Vice Gov. Lacson also called on Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa to submit his report to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and to the Sanggunian Panlalawigan. (NDB)
