Outgoing Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has ordered all departments and offices of the provincial government of Negros Occidental to support and cooperate with the incoming administration of Governor-elect Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson.

This was confirmed by acting provincial administrator Lucille Gelvolea yesterday.

“The governor during our 2019 direction-setting in Hinobaan over the weekend encouraged all departments and offices to give full support to the transition and to the administration of incoming Governor Lacson,” Gelvolea said.

“We are going to follow his tag-line ‘Unity and Continuity’,” she said.

She said an executive order creating a transition team was issued as early as the first week of May to ensure “a smooth turn over.”

This is in compliance with a circular of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), to ensure that the turn over to the new administration of Lacson will have no problem, Gelvolea said.

The new governor will officially sit on July 1.

The transition team, Gelvolea said, is chaired by the governor himself, co-chaired by Ma. Lina Sanogal, provincial planning officer, and composed of the different heads of departments and offices with the local heads of the DILG and the Philippine National Police (PNP) as well as a representative from the business sector.

Gelvolea said the task of the transition is to prepare all inventories and status of all programs and projects to brief the incoming administration; inventory of all assets of the provincial government; ongoing linkages with national agencies and programs with foreign governments.

She added that they will start in June and complete it before the governor steps down from office.

“We are ready if the team of the incoming governor will have other concerns,” she added.

Meanwhile, she added that all the staff at the Office of Governor as well and the co-terminus positions of the Provincial Administrator and Provincial Legal Officer will be replaced.

Gelvolea will return as head of the Economic Enterprise Division.* (NDB)
