Following the “controversial” resignation of lawyer and Provincial Environment and Management Office (PEMO) head Wilfred Ramon Peñalosa, pro-environment group Green Alert Network(GAN) expressed an open mind to the former’s decision.

Rusty Biñas, founder of GAN said that “it is time for a new brand of leadership” to take hold of PEMO.

Peñalosa said his resignation was not out of politics and was more on personal reasons.

“In my opinion, it is always good to have a new mode of leadership. This provides us with possible new solutions,” Biñas meanwhile said.

Biñas said the issues on illegal structures in the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) are among responsibilities of PEMO because of the Integrated Social Forestry (ISF) associations in Negros Occidental.

The ISF comprises of producers or farmer-members who take part on environmental consumerism and growth within the province.

The resignation of Peñalosa makes environmental groups like GAN open to the possibility of a new approach at solving and addressing environmental concerns, he said.
