The PHO also issued the importance of vigilance against the outbreak as it spreads its way all past the areas of high prospect.

The PHO also issued an update of each municipality’s healthcare services and focus on the said importance of the vaccination against measles and other illnesses that are of relevance. With the growing population and the need for lookout against fast-spreading conditions, the need for vaccination as early as 6 months of age was also highly emphasized. All Centers for Health Development (CHDs) were then issued an order to conduct a vaccination for measles and Vitamin A supplementation starting from February up to the end of March 2019.

Directors from each CHD will be the leader in their respective center.  They will assign dedicated teams for monitoring of the Intensified Measles Outbreak Immunization. They must coordinate with their respective Local Government Units (LGUs) to make a check for the campaign as well as for the respective hospitals to mobilize their Public Health Units or Health

Through the whole year of 2018, cases with regards to measles were reported to have reached up to 21,812, with 202 cases leading to death. 70% of the cases were stated to not have been immunized with measles and 29% had an unknown status of vaccination. High risks within ages below 5 years old were also reported to be more prone to being infected with the illness.

Children aged from 6-59 months will be given one (1) dose of measles-containing vaccine (MCV) and Vitamin A supplement. They will also be given Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) as the immunization coverage had spiraled downward for the past 5 years.  For others within the age range who already have had at least two (2) doses of MCV and OPV will not be vaccinated for the campaign. Adults who are also “unvaccinated” will be given one (1) dose of MCV.

An emphasis was also given to unvaccinated or incomplete vaccination for selective school-based targets, specifically for pupils from Grade 1 to 6 and pre-school students, with the help of the Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Pupils should also present proof of vaccination status to prove that the child had completed vaccination with MCV.
