The Commission on Elections (COMELEC)-Negros Occidental opened the accreditation for members of the media for the May 13, 2019 local and national elections.

This, after the guidelines for mass media accreditation came out March 6 through COMELEC Resolution No. 10507 which sets the deadline of the accomplished accreditation form and other requirements on March 15, 2019.

Media practitioners, as part of the requirements, must submit endorsement letter from the newspaper, television, radio station or internet news agency employing the applicant signed by the Editor/Station Manager.

Meanwhile, freelancers need to secure a valid assignment letter from a bonafide media organization for which he/she is on assignment.

Together with the accomplished accreditation form will be two pieces 1.5”x1.5” colored ID photo with white background.

Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Salud Milagros Villanueva said the requirements should be submitted at the COMELEC Negros Occidental Provincial Office at Door 3B, RS Building at Hilado Cor. Narra Avenue, Capitol Shopping Center (beside C and I Lending Center) in Bacolod City not later than March 15, 5PM.

According to the resolution, duly accredited media shall be allowed maximum access to all stages of the electoral process provided that the access shall not be used to undermine any of the protections mandated by Republic Act 10173 otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
