Cagayan de Oro City has passed the initial screening for this year’s search for Galing Pook Awards.
“We passed the initial screening, and so we are included in the finalist for the search,” Local School Board Executive Director Dr. Alice Anghay announced during the ManCom Meeting on Monday, September 12, 2022.
Following the screening is the three-day validation of the city’s program application which is focused on education.
According to Anghay, during the validation, which will be conducted from September 22 to 25, the evaluators will interview personnel from offices concerned with education direction, such as the Local School Board, City Scholarship Office, Cagayan de Oro Technical Vocational Institute, City Social Welfare and Development, among others.
“The activity is spearheaded by the City Mayor’s Office. Although, we can practically say that for this year’s search, the collaborative efforts of our Former Mayor Oscar Moreno and our now Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy will also be given focus,” Anghay said.
As part of their preparation for this year’s Search for Galing Pook Awards, Anghay said they were trying to gather all the performance indicators, such as the participation rate and graduation rate, from the Department of Education (DepEd) from 2013 to 2022.
Anghay said there is a high possibility that Cagayan de Oro City will once again be an awardee of the Galing Pook Awards.
“There are a lot of initiatives that the city has done in terms of education that we can say have improved a lot in the development of education in the city,” Anghay said.
In 2021, Cagayan de Oro bagged its third Galing Pook award with its entry “Health is Worth Fighting For, Cagayan de Oro Health Journey,” which showed the effort, development, and management of the health system in the city during the pandemic.
