“Work Readiness,” a six-month period of internship, aims to aid fresh college graduates in finding employment and assist local industries in hiring qualified candidates for open positions.

“We are preventing brain drain in the province because our fresh graduates tend to search for work outside the province right after graduation. So to keep our young professionals employed in Ilocos Norte, we provide them with a promising job with a salary package in which they can gain first-hand work experience, master their skills, and receive just compensation,” Mrs. Anne Marie Lizette B. Atuan, PESO Manager, said.

Interns must be in the top 10% of their graduating class, as verified by a school authority, have completed a four-year college course with a certificate of good moral, and have demonstrated civic consciousness via active engagement in community youth initiatives.

The documentary requirements for internship application include a transcript of record, diploma or certification of graduation, medical certificate with COVID-19 vaccination compliance card, and other documents issued by the school and barangay.

“Currently, we are working with academic institutions in Ilocos Norte to screen candidates. We are also collaborating with participating industries, with which PGIN will sign a memorandum of agreement. And we are partnering with the Department of Labor and Employment to implement labor-related legislation,” Mrs. Atuan explained.

Recently, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc stated that he will focus on “trabaho, hanapbuhay, at kita” in his second term to further mitigate the impacts of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic on the employment and livelihood of locals. (Cita Macalipis)
