Bacolod: NegOcc logs 230 new dengue cases

Bacolod City – Negros Occidental logged 230 more dengue cases, with deaths increasing to 11, during the period from July 10 to 16, according to a report of the Department of Health – Western Visayas.

That brings to 2,445 the total dengue cases reported from January to July 16, an increase of 910 percent compared to 233 cases in the same period last year.

The Provincial Health Office has dispatched some of its teams to local government units in Negros Occidental that were among the top 10 LGUs with highest number of cases.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson expects a further increase in dengue cases in the months of August and September due to the rainy season.

Negros Occidental remains on top of the list which includes six provinces and highly urbanized cities in Western Visayas, having the greatest number of dengue cases at 2,445.

DOH WV reports further showed that five more dengue related deaths were recorded in Western Visayas, as cases near the 7,000 mark.

The total deaths in Region 6 is now 37, with 674 new dengue cases logged from July 10 to 16, thereby increasing cases to 6,856 from January to July 16, compared to 1,199 cases in the same period last year,

The additional five deaths recorded came from Antique with 2 and one each in Negros Occidental, Bacolod City and Iloilo province.

Antique still trails Negros Occidental, with 1,731 cases, Iloilo province has 1,228, Bacolod City – 398, Capiz – 370, Iloilo City – 293, Aklan – 291 and Guimaras – 100, DOH records further showed.

BACOLOD CITY CASES

In Bacolod City, the number of dengue cases continue to escalate, reaching a total of 393 as of July 16 with seven reported deaths.

The figure is 216.9 percent higher compared to the total number of cases last year covering the same period, which was 124 with two deaths.

Two of the seven fatalities this year came from Barangay Mansilingan, and one each from Brgys. Singcang, Pahanocoy, Sum-ag, Tangub, and Granada.

The barangays with the highest number of dengue cases are Mansilingan with 37 cases, Estefania – 33, Tangub – 32, Taculing – 29, Singcang – 26, Sum-ag – 25, Alijis and Villamonte – 24 each, Mandalagan and Handumanan – 19 each, Granada and Cabug – 17 each, and Felisa – 10.
