Bacolod: Hero’s welcome for SEAG silver medalist

Bacolod City – Southeast Asian Games medalist Khrizzie Pabulayan yesterday got a heroes’ welcome upon her return to her hometown of Brgy. Latasan, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Khrizzie duplicated the feat of her cousin, Crisanto Pabulayan, also of Brgy. Latasan, EB Magalona, a member of the Philippine dragon boat team who also received a heroes’ welcome in 2011 from municipal officials after he and five other townmates won five gold and two silver medals in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation World Championship in Tampa, Florida, United States.

Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, who represented Mayor Marvin Malacon in welcome receptions at the EB Magalona municipal hall, after a motorcade from the Silay Bacolod Airport, turned over P100,000 cash incentives to Pabulayan, a 24-year-old member of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Matulac also presented a resolution unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Bayan of EB Magalona, congratulating and commending Pabulayan for winning a silver medal for Team Philippines in the Women’s 52 Kg category of judo, at the 31st Southeast Asian Games held recently in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Despite challenges and setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she persevered and pushed on with her training to compete against the strong athletes from other Southeast Asian countries in the 31st SEA Games, the resolution states.

This historic win, not only unites us, and brings pride to the municipality and country as well, also inspire all Filipino athletes and Saraviahanons to continue to strive and pursue their dreams, it added.

It further stressed the need to commend and reward the sacrifices, hard work and determination to the outstanding Saraviahanon athletes that brings honor and recognition to EB Magalona.

In several occasions, the municipality of EB Magalona headed by Mayor Malacon paid tribute to outstanding Saraviahanons for their astonishing feat of bringing honor and glory to the town, Matulac said.

During 2019 SEA Games that was held in the Philippines, Pabulayan also got a Bronze Medal in the same sport.

Matulac, in his speech during the awarding rites held at the municipal, also attended by department heads, commended Pabulayan for bringing honor and glory to the municipality by placing again EB Magalona in the limelight of the world of sports. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds photo by tvds)
